Bariatric surgeries (surgery procedure as the solution for obesity)

According to BMI of the client, we offer four types of bariatric surgeries – laparoscopic gastric banding, sleeve gastrectomy, great curvature plication and procedure with the application of BIB - intragastric balloon.

Laparoscopic gastric banding

Gastric banding or the stomach banding is performed in general anaesthesia at the operating theatre. This surgery does not require removal of part of the abdominal cavity, or opening the digestive tract.

This procedure is based on placing an inflatable band around the upper part of the stomach, which slows and limits the amount of food that can be consumed at one time and it results in satiety of the patient in a short period of time. Of course, this surgery does not affect appetite; success of this procedure lies in reducing the feeling of hunger.

Resulting weight loss varies from 2 - 10 kilograms per month and more than 20 kilograms per year. Weight loss is connected with the feeling of satisfaction in patients, which is related also to the improvement of quality of their lives.

Sleeve gastrectomy

Sleeve gastrectomy is a surgical weight-loss procedure in which a large part of the stomach is removed, approximately 75%. This procedure reduces the overall capacity of the stomach and the feeling of hunger is reduced. The patient loses the weight quicker than in the case of gastric banding.

This surgery is performed as a laparoscopic procedure and it is not reversible (it is permanent). This procedure is suitable for patients with BMI over 40.

Laparoscopic gastric wrap (laparoscopic greater curvature plication)

During the laparoscopic greater curvature plication, the stomach is not removed, but only one of its walls, so-called greater curvature is buried and stitches are inserted longitudinally, this results in reduction of volume of the stomach for food and the patient has the feeling of satiety sooner than before the procedure.

This surgery is performed in general anaesthesia with the use of laparoscopy at the operating room. This procedure does not last longer than two hours, the risk of complications is minimal, as there is no foreign implant left in the body and thus the stomach wall is not affected.

The weight loss is approximately 50% of excessive weight in the first year and up to 63% by the end of the second year.

Intragastric balloon (BIB system)

Method BIB is a procedure during which a silicone balloon is inserted in the stomach, which is filled with approximately 500 ml of saline fluid. The result is a reduction of stomach volume and the patient eats smaller portions of food.

BIB method helps to improve eating habits and observe weight loss diet. Balloon may be left in the stomach for approximately 6 months. The weight loss varies between 10 to 20 kilograms.
